Academic Choir of Aarhus
Academic Choir of Aarhus is an amateur choir characterized by ambition and professional dedication. The choir consists of 34 young singers of which many are associated with the musical life at and around the University of Aarhus and the Royal Academy of Music. The choir was founded in 1985. Since the summer of 2005 Ole Faurschou has been the conductor of the choir.
Musically, Academic Choir of Aarhus covers a wide range of genres and it is the goal of the choir to present the audience with an interesting and varied repertoire. Contemporary Danish and Scandinavian choral music are common themes in the repertoire, but a broad variety of genres are simultaneously treated, from the strict polyphonic music of the Renaissance through the intense emotionality of the 19th century music to first performances of works by Danish composers. Apart from working with an expressive and homogeneous sound, Academic Choir of Aarhus is conscious of its obligation to communicate the joy and delight engendered by music as an integral part of the listening experience. Academic Choir of Aarhus has performed in as various places as Estonia, the Faroe Islands, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, France, Hungary, England, Canada and China, and, throughout the years it has achieved 1. prizes at competitions in Tallinn (Estonia), Budapest and Debrecen (Hungary), Arezzo (Italy) and Powell River (Canada). In July, 2006, the choir won three 1st prizes at the 8th International Chorus Festival in Beijing, China, including best choir, best performance of the compulsory piece and best conductor.
Previously, Academic Choir of Aarhus has released 5 CD’s: Lyse Nætter (Summer Nights, 1992), Cantate Domino (1996), Der er noget i luften (Something in the air, 1999), Full Fathom Five (2000) and Forunderligt – 20th Century Danish Choral Music (2004).
